These photos were taken along the road and at the summit of Maui's long dormant volcano, Haleakalā.  The temperature dropped more than 20 degrees on our drive up the mountain.  We stopped to enjoy the amazing views of the mountain peeking through the clouds, hiking along the approaches to the volcano's lava cones.  The spectacular Silverword plant is found only here and lives nearly 90 years before flowering once and then dying.
